As 2017 closes, Wilson Benesch are proud to announce news of its latest collaborative research and development project.
Sustainable Structural and Multifunctional Biocomposites from Hybrid Natural Fibres and bio-based polymers – SSUCHY
The SSUCHY Project officially kicked off in September 2017. The SSUCHY Project gathers 17 European partners. Together they will work in the next 4 years to develop composite constituents, based on renewable resources (i.e. bio-based polymers and natural fiber reinforcements).
The Objective & Outcomes
The development of multifunctional recyclable and/or biodegradable bio- based composites with advanced functionalities for applications in transportation (ground transportation and aerospace) and a high value market niche (acoustic and electronics). The project is dedicated to the development of specific concepts, technologies and materials along the complete value chain. It will also test their feasibility at demonstration scale. The expected impact is double. Firstly, set the basis and validate new bio-based constituents for composites. In a second step, the ambition is to propose new composite structures and products based on these bio-based constituents and demonstrate their advanced functionalities at demonstration scale.
A large scale multi-stakeholders project
SSUCHY project brings together 17 European partners, coordinated by the French University of Franche-Comté:
• 10 universities and research organisms : University of Franche-Comté – FEMTO-ST (France), KU Leuven (Belgium), University of Bristol (United Kingdom), CNRS – Chimie Paris Tech (France) ; Stockolm University (Sweden) ; Ecole Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Tarbes (France); Ecole Nationale Supérieure Arts & Industries Textiles (France); University of Derby – Institute for Innovation in Sustainable Engineering (United Kingdom) ; University of Burgundy (France) and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Italy)
• 3 SMEs: WILSON BENESCH (United Kingdom), EADCO (Germany) and NPSP BV (Netherlands)
• 3 industrial companies: AKSO NOBEL (Netherlands), LINIFICIO E CANAPIFICIO NAZIONALE (Italy) and TRÈVES (France)
• 1 competitiveness cluster: IAR, the French Bioeconomy Cluster (France)
The project will be carried out over 48 months, from September 2017 to August 2021, with a total budget of €7.4-million, including €4.45-million of BBI JU contribution.
SSUCHY is financed by the Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking, under the auspices of the Horizon 2020 program of the European Union, convention n° 744349.
